Where Self-Discovery Meets Personal Growth

About

Jesse Carmen-Hay

Jesse Carmen-Hay is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California. She graduated from the University of Michigan undergrad (Go Blue!) and then went on to get her Masters in Social Work at Boston College. Jesse is originally from Boston, MA and moved out to Los Angeles in 2019 to follow a lifelong dream of living in California. Now, she has no plans of ever leaving!

Therapeutically, Jesse believes in meeting her clients where they are at - she sees every client as an individual and understands that something that may work for one client may not work for another. Her therapeutic modalities include but are not limited to: CBT, CPT, ACT, motivational interviewing, etc. She formerly worked in eating disorder treatment centers as well as in school settings before opening her private practice where she offers both in person sessions as well as virtual - whichever works better for the client. Jesse's goal as a therapist is to provide a safe space for her clients to share whatever is on their mind. She operates on an incredibly nonjudgmental approach - society is judgmental enough so no one should feel judged in their therapy sessions. Jesse lives in Marina Del Rey, CA with her wife and their two fluffy daughters, Winnie & Truffle. In her spare time she loves to spend time outside, read, try new restaurants, eat sushi, watch mindless television, stay active & spend time with her family!

Jesse sat me down and listened to my story. She asked me about what was going on in a way that felt safe, like I was sharing with a trusted friend. She looked me in the eyes, nodded her head with understanding and smiled comfortingly. I knew she was getting the information she needed because of the specificity of her questions; but she did so in a way that never felt rushed or clinical.

And when I was done, she nodded confidently and said exactly what I needed to hear. That I could overcome this - that more help was available and she could guide me to it.

As a mother trying to navigate the unchartered waters of my daughter’s eating disorder, Jesse was a life line. Not only did she provide my daughter with consistent, and constructive guidance and feedback but she was also instrumental in our family counseling.

I am not sure where my daughter or our family would be without Jesse’s help. Her commitment to our daughter, and her healing process exceeded her responsibilities and my expectations. Every once in a while a shining star comes into your life. For us, that has been Jesse. I am forever grateful for her.

Jesse was my colleague and worked as a human development teacher to middle school students. In my 2-decade long career, I have never seen a teacher so beloved by her students. She has this uncanny ability to create instantaneous connections with them. They know immediately that she is in their corner cheering them on as they confront daily challenges and celebrate wins. She makes the people around her feel fully seen and heard with her patience and attuned heart. In a short amount of time she absolutely changed young people's lives with her beautiful empathy and fierce advocacy. I am so happy she is continuing to do so as a therapist and coach.

During what was probably the most distressing and life-threatening period of my life, Jesse provided unbelievable support and advice. She's extremely knowledgeable, patient, kind, and organized, and was able to expertly guide us through the confusing and highly stressful process of finding the right eating disorder resources for my daughter.

This speaker was very engaging and I really appreciated how she answered questions throughout the presentation and incorporated that into it. That made it more personal and interesting.

The presenter is clearly an expert in assessing and treating clients of all ages who present with a variety of eating disorders. Her presentation was packed with examples from her practice that enriched the content she presented.

One of the most knowledgeable and trauma informed speakers I’ve ever engaged with in a CEU space.

What I really appreciate about Jesse is that she took the time to understand the audience that she would be working with and our goals for her visit. She tailored her presentation accordingly and the sessions with our middle schoolers made an impact without the topics of food and eating disorders seeming scary!
